A Little History About Savron Graphics

Located in the heart of the Monadnock region, in beautiful downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Savron Graphics gives you a full-line of printing services. We started in New Ipswich, NH in the basement of Bob Lawn, co-founder and brother, in June of 1967. That's Bob shown in this photo.

So, where did our name "Savron" come from? Here's the story:

When we first started in June of 1967 we were named Craft Press. When we wanted to incorporate our business later that year our attorney tried to register but was informed that there was a Craftsman Press in Manchester and that if we wanted to use Craft Press we would have to get permission from them to do so. Since we were only in business about 3 months and hardly anyone except family members had heard about us we decided that a name change would probably not be a big deal. Well, the attorney was on the phone and wanted us to come up with a name right there on the spot because he wanted to get the corporate papers filed that very day. So brother Bob, his wife Deanna and brother Dave had to do some quick thinking. (I wasn't present for the naming process because at the time I was in the Navy.) In the process of their "discussion" it seems Deanna was in the bathroom and she called out from there, "Hey, how about 'savron'? That's what it says on this bar of soap!" So Bob and Dave are thinking, out loud, "Savron Press? No. Savron Printing? No. Savron Graphics? Hey, that's not bad. Yeah, Savron Graphics." So they gave the new name to the attorney and he went off and filed the proper papers. But when they went back to check out this bar of soap, it didn't say "savron" at all. It was a discount brand called "sav-on". Well, it was too late to do anything about it at that point and because we eventually (1970) moved to Jaffrey, with a large French Canadian community, Savron had a nice ring to it especially considering that "savon", en francaise, means.... soap! And now you know.
